The story of the camp's development is below.
FYD received a small grant from the Maryland Governor's Office of Crime Prevention. Although the lot took almost two years to renovate, FYD held camp that first year. Camp included rap sessions, open forums, community meetings.
Over time, many neighborhood events were organized from an annual Halloween barbecue to a 4th of July Bash, hip hop fund raisers, and many block parties.
In addition to organizing events held locally, FYD camp sponsors field trips for youth. Destinations have included:
The Great Blacks in Wax Museum
National Zoo in Washington, DC
New York City
Oregon Ridge Beach
Camp also includes creative arts activities and educational classes.
